Although a few scientific researchers don't acknowledge the benefits of The Zone Diet, this plan for weight loss has been a success worldwide for more than three decades. It was developed by Barry Sears, a Californian biochemist, in the mid-1990s.
Thanks to Sears, the consumption of Omega-3 fatty acids and polyphenols for healthy living became very popular. He founded one of the first biotechnology startup companies in America, developing lipid-based delivery systems for cancer drugs. Years later, Barry Sears published his first best-seller: The Zone: A Dietary Road Map.
Sears' main approach to health management is restricting grains and starches and maximizing fruits and vegetables. He also considers polyphenol intake is important in controlling the bacteria composition of our digestive system, which activate anti-obesity and anti-aging genes.
Up to date, Barry Sears has a complete program on nutrition that includes the so-called Zone Diet as well as some dietary supplements that contain polyphenols and antioxidants. Some scientific esteem his nutritional plan exceeds on proteins. However, the Zone Diet's team suggests you ask your physician about the recommended amount of protein you need throughout the day. ⊕
